The Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM) conducted a workshop consultation on the Codes and Procedures of its initiative titled Asian and Pacific Network for Testing of Agricultural Machinery (ANTAM) as a side event of Agritechnica Asia from 12 to 14 March 2025, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.
Following an independent evaluation of the ANTAM initiative, supported by the Institute of Agricultural Machinery of Japan in 2023-24, CSAM committed to conducting roadshows at relevant events to gather feedback and attract additional partners to the network. Agritechnica Asia, one of the largest agricultural machinery exhibitions in the region, provided an ideal platform for this outreach. The event involved directly the members of another key CSAM initiative, the "Regional Council of Agricultural Machinery Associations in Asia and the Pacific" (ReCAMA) which focuses on promoting trade of sustainable agricultural mechanization across the Asia-Pacific region.
The workshop was opened by Dr. Thi Tam Dinh, Vice Director General, Vietnam Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology, representing the Vietnam Society of Agricultural Engineering (VSAGE) which is currently the Chair of ReCAMA, and Mr. Tran Duc Tuan, ANTAM National Focal Point for Viet Nam and Director of the Research Centre for Agricultural Machinery and Aero-Hydraulic.
The workshop was held in the exhibition space, making it accessible to interested parties attending Agritechnica Asia, and was attended by around forty participants from ten countries. Participants where actively engaged as the objective of the event was gathering feedback from agricultural machinery manufacturers, traders, and associations on the ANTAM Codes and procedures, and how these can support them more effectively. The event featured presentations on the ANTAM Codes and ANTAM Quality Manual, which guides the management of testing stations and operational processes, including for the request of tests by manufacturers and official distributors. It also showcased the potential of the ANTAM network to enhance the trade of sustainable small agricultural machinery.
CSAM serves as the secretariat for both the ANTAM and ReCAMA initiatives. The workshop allowed the private sector to play a more significant role in shaping the Codes, which are developed through an inclusive harmonization process by Technical Working Groups comprising experts from participating countries.
