On 28 November 2024, the Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) visited the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME)-National Research University, Uzbekistan.
During the visit, a meeting was held between the two parties. Professor Salokhiddinov Abdukhakim Temirkhodjaevich, Vice-Rector of the university, warmly welcomed the CSAM delegates and provided a comprehensive introduction to the university. His presentation highlighted the institution's history, educational systems, research initiatives, academic programmes, pilot projects, and its active engagement in international cooperation. Dr. Yutong Li, Head of CSAM, expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit the university. She gave an overview of CSAM's mission, and the successful organization of the Asia-Uzbekistan Dialogue on Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization held on 27 November 2024. Dr. Li emphasized CSAM's role as a regional platform dedicated to advancing sustainable agricultural mechanization through collaborative efforts with stakeholders and partners, including Uzbekistan. She underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation at the national, sub-regional, regional, and international levels. Both parties affirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration, leveraging their respective strengths and resources to promote sustainable agricultural mechanization and contribute to accelerated attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals. Delegates of Nanjing Research Institute of Agricultural Mechanization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China also joined the visit and discussion.
The Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME)-National Research University is an established higher education institution in Uzbekistan, specializing in water resource management, irrigation, agricultural mechanization, and related engineering disciplines. Established in 1923, it has played an important role in training professionals and advancing research in sustainable agriculture and water management in Uzbekistan.
