In accordance with the Statute of APCAEM, the Sixty-Second Commission Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), along with the host country, China, elected the following countries to the Governing Council of the Centre for the period 2006-2009:

• Democratic People's Republic of Korea
• Fiji
• India
• Indonesia
• Iran (Islamic Republic of)
• Republic of Korea
• Thailand
• Viet Nam

The Commission Session successfully concluded in Jakarta, Indonesia. Ministers and senior officials from over 50 countries attended the annual event which was held from 6-12 April 2006. During the session, the work of the four regional institutions (APCAEM, APCTT, CAPSA, SIAP) were reviewed. One delegation proposed that APCAEM undertake technical cooperation activities in the area of post-harvest technology and management applied to tropical fruits as well as mechanization and automation of the production of farm produce. Contributions to the regional institutions were also pledged by members and associate members for 2006.
